This contest was a members knock up with the added twist of the A.G.M before the draw which for once went splendidly well
My day started with the alarm clock going of at 5:30 instead of 6:30 ::) the journey there was pretty straight forward for me anyway
On arrival at Broad acres i was astounded to discover i was last there almost an whole hour before the draw.
Having quickly caught up with the peggers a.k.a as John Cox and Rob Powell who half way through pegging out were given a slap by Mick for putting peg 1 in the wrong place I noticed there are some lovely looking pegs all in comfortable pole range.
Anyway pegging done we promptly marched back to Mags Snack Bar who made a lovely cup of coffee mind you it should be for £1.10
Special mention for good old Frank who went round collecting the peg money with his usual shotgun to the kneecap approach and after having agreed to collect the pools money promptly gave me a lecture Once the draw started i decided to hold back a while i then dived in and pulled out Island peg 11
I decided to go with 3 lines, line 1 was to my right in the margin which was nearly 4ft deep line 2 was far bank also about 4ft and line 3 was 3 parts across which was about 5ft. lines 1 & 2 i cupped in some red maggots for a look later. Line 3 i cupped in worm & caster, this was intended to be my main line after hearing various reports about some cracking silver weights coming out. Rigs 1&2 consisted of 3.5lb power silk straight through to 18 pr29's. floats were 4 x14 pb inter 7's. Line 3 was again 3.5 power silk to 2.5lb power silk later changed to 1.5lb. float was a 0.3 malmon pencil.
First fish came after 10 minutes a cracking roach about 7oz, another one of similar size soon followed. then next drop in i lost a bigger one which spelt the end of the choppie action :(
After spending an hour on red and dead red maggot in the near and far margins i noticed some movement to my right on the far island bank at about 15m
This made my mind up to go searching for carp along the island bank with a 6m punched palony on the hook and no feed at all.First put in i lost a carp in the reeds second one i had a small carp. A while later i lost 2 more in quick succession another landed 10 Min's later and thats the lot Besides stickle backs i had a proper butcher . Also special mention to Tony opposite me who lost 2 big carp the 2nd of which came of with about 30 seconds left
Sorry about the photo quality i did ask sprucey but he charges way over the odds
