Don`t know the year but the fishing use to be the best in the area for a canal. That`s when the wood yard barges were using it. Now it`s gin clear full of weed and riddled with Cormarants :'( Image

The first ever open win i had was from that peg shown in the picture Image Chub on the Waggler Image

Nice one ChrisV - ta for that snippet Image Bet that picture bought back a few memories

How places/venues change over time!!!! Could be a cue for another topic

The year by the way was 1955 ;) and before anybody has a pop, that was the date of the picture - not ChrisV's demonstration of his prowess with the waggler :D

They were still running a horse drawn barge once a year on the R. Chelmer until the last few years. I can't remember now if it was a brewery or the Chelmer Navigation Co. that ran it just to keep alive their rights and the tradition. Certainly it ran in the last 20 years.

1959 is my guess. I remember my father using 'horse poo' groundbait on the Lea at Broxbourne when we fished it in the 50's. It did float if it had dried out but often had maggots in it. The maggots we used as bait and the poo put a cloud into the water, with a few poo, maggots if it was dampened down!

Didn't pick Stonebridge Lock though!
