John Dean do i win owt !

Who`s that little git in the bottom right hand corner of the picture?? Could it be a young Dean Barlow??

Legend !!!!! saw him about 3 years ago at Codner Reservoir fishing hemp and tares.
What a top Trent float angler maybe the best !

Best Trent angler by a mile.
He used to work upstairs on the computer at Mansfield Angling Centre. I have spoke to him on quite a few occasions.
Strange, in a way, looking at that picture, he considers keepnets should be totally banned now.

bill, trev has quiet a lot to do with john now through the business john still fishes the trent at fiskerton but its all barbel fishing now proper specimens 
what a proper angler he was i used to sit behind him on loads of matches [at a distance he never like you right behind him]
all the matches then at burton joyce were at least 150 pegs if not more i don't think you will ever see another river angler like him dave thomas john allerton swinno ted stokes robin grouse motty all had good days but john dean was the kid

the young un behind  John, next to the flat capped gentelman looks like Trevor Chalk ...........
and mr flat cap could be Roundy

John came to fish a match on one of my local waters The Sibsey trader--and i was panicking cos id drawn next to him-
My mate said just do your normal thing and dont even think whos next to you.
I fished my usual short pole and Squatt tacics and was soon catching small roach steadily-John was fishing waggler and maggot and struggling-about halfway through the match he came and sat behind me and said you are trouncing me, ive come to see how you are doing it--i asked him have you brought any squatts-he said yes a few and said i`ll go and try them--he virtually copied what i was doing and was soon catching well--but i had an almost 3 hr start on him and he was never gonna catch me but he carried on to the end and I weighed 8lb 9oz and came second in the match and John weighed just short of 4lbs and won the section-he came to me afterwards and said well done and thanks for the lesson on squatt fishing-its another lesson learned--the sign of a top angler-always willing to take new stuff in to improve himself. a very nice guy--i should have asked him for lessons on the Trent.

same thing once happend to me with keven ashurst,he sat behind me ate my sadwiches drank my tea then went back to his peg, the diffrence being he then beat me.

Great Trent anglers - John Dean, above, obviously one of the very best. Watching him on the Trent was a real education, always making micro adjustments to his float and shotting. I kept thinking, soon he'll have it cracked, and settle down and cane 'em. What I failed to realise at the time was that he was catching while making all these small changes, simply because he was making them. Doh! Anyway, one Burton Summer league match a guy sat behind me and asked what made John Dean so good, so I tried to show him - shuffling shot about, moving the float up and down (it was a tough day and I wasn't catching much). In the midst of all these adjustments I was running the stickfloat through at about half depth, it buried and I landed a 2 lb bream - bonus or what. Having netted it, I turned round to the guy and said: 'That's what John Dean does - only he does it a lot more frequently!'
One of the very best stick anglers I had the pleasure to watch - apart from Mr Kingfisher of course - was Johnny Toulson. Locally to me, Les McEwan was a bit handy too.

Don't forget John Allerton one of the best trent and river anglers and also launched a great range of alloy stem stick floats. I still have some of his original sticks but they don't see a lot of use now. Pete Warren as well
