I have been there but never fished Lanesborough.

Maybe TMR will confirm this but there is an arm of the Shannon, somewhere in that area that produces massive hybrids some up to 8 lb or so believe it or not Image Image Image Image

Its the famous "hot water" stretch at Lanesborough
about 10 pegs from inlet, where the hotwater comes in
from the power station,to the town bridge you can see there in the pic, though at times you would get over 20 fishing there :D
I dont think the ESB run the hot water all the time now.
The fisheries board have made a concrete embankment
from the inlet through the bridge & down another 10 pegs.
I think its so the FN's have a level area for the bbq >:(

TMR - what's the 'FN's?

Fishing knobs?
Foreign nationals, usually of the eastern european variety,
that cook roach & bream on open fires & instant bbq's,on
the bank, washed down with tyskie beer & vodka, leave all
the rubbish behind, then cause mayhem on the roads.
Theres thousands of em here mate & thats one of the
most popular fishing/eating venues in the country :(

Its been completely OTT here TK.The powers that be
introduced a 4 fish limit, before they came here en-mass,where you're legally allowed to kill 4 coarse fish.
This was brought in for pike anglers to catch bait.
Of course it cant be policed properly & its really had
an effect on some lakes & canals. Not satisfied with
taking 4 for the pot, cooking them on the bank, then taking
another 4,they net, long line & any other method they can
get away with. There are certain areas where "water keepers" are doing a sterling job, muckno for eg & the district
judge is coming down hard on them, but for some places
its too late & will take years to return to what it used to be.
These places are usually smaller lakes close to low paid
labour factories like meatpackers, chicken processers ect.
:(
