First pole wasnt that long.........if you held it you'd know why Image

Bought it in 1976 from Bentley Bait. It was a 5.8mtr shakespeare jobbie.........complete with a couple of crooks

It was that heavy and what a diameter on it = the butt section wasnt far off a drainpipe Image - ended up making a landing net handle out of the 'top3' Image

My first pole was a bamboo crappity smack Image
Can't remember how many sections but it was either 15 feet or 18 feet; I think I had the shorter variety.
The tip used to bend like crappity smack with an ounce roach on. Image

They were for fishing long line; don't think we twigged on that short lining was possible in those days. Image

They were heavy Image Image Image

If I remember right I grew some beans up the crappity smack Image

If I remember right they were not varnished and supplied with a red thread loop already tied to the tip.

I spotted a rod in a pet shop in Stafford when I was a kid. It really was a flash bit of gear. It had a solid wooden butt and was nigh on impossible to carry around, it was that heavy. It cost £2 10 shillings (£2.50) in those days, - it would probably be a lot cheaper now, - you could hardly lift the crappity smack up Image Image

I can't remember all the poles I've had. I have a few now but almost exclusively use the Fox Envoy. I bought this not long after they come out. For some reason or other the carbon joints tend to wear at a much lesser rate than other poles.
I had a pole once and actually broke a section on one stalk of spikey grass (no prizes for guesssing the make).
Anyway the only sections I have had to replace on my Fox are through breakages, (my own fault).
I admit to being a tackle tart and there is something wrong if it doesn't get a good clean every week; they last much longer doing this.
OK it was expensive but I do lots of fishing and it really still does look like new. Some of my team mates have got through four since I have had this one!
I also use it in Ireland without any problems whatsoever.

It was Roberto Nuddillo that said I was the biggest tackle tart he had ever seen Image Image Image Image

Having said all that I'll probably bost the crappity smack at the weekend Image

Lads, do we look back at the old poles with rose tinted glasses?????? I remember the first proper pole I ever owned and thought it was the Dogs B+#S. I’ve still got the but section and you could stand on it and it wouldn’t mind.

Anyway, here goes.

6ft tank aerial from the scrap yard. ( thought it was a brill gudgeon Whip)
Milo Carboron 14mtr
Browning Legend Ceramic ??? 14mtr
Shakespear Superteam 14mtr( Brill pole)
Maver 301 The Green Dream 16mtr????
Maver C51 16mtr (Absolutely fantastic pole best small fish pole ever used)
Browning 910 club France 17.5mtr
Colmic 3500 16mtr
Diawa torny pro 16mtr
Fox Envoy Elite 16mtr ( best all round pole ever used )

I drew next to Roberto Nuddilus in Ireland in September. The only difference excepting for the colour, was that his Envoy caught more fish than mine Image

The joints do have a 'stengthening' coat on the joints on the gold one but I've never had a problem on thast score anyway. Top pole matey, well worth the investment.
Even Rocco liked mine; that is until the cost was mentioned then the Kleenex Image came out followed by the Andrex!

Just thought..............

I have a Shimano Solstace 12.5m bagging pole. Very rarely been used and not a scratch on it.
Anyone remember them, they must be a few years old now. Image Image Image Image Image
