There were loads of matches of interest w/e Feb 22nd 1992.

Starting off on the Bridgewater canal for Dodge, the headlines ran

Quick response set up Stuart

‘Stuart Conroy carefully fed small amounts of groundbait to win the Warrington match on the Bridgewater Canal at Thelwall with 8-5-0
He was close to the M6 bridge and got his first fish after 10 minutes and added four more in consecutive casts.
The fish were skimmers in the 1lb bracket and took bread fished at 9 metres.
At the end Stuart (Compleat Angler) had eight skimmers and ten roach and the four Kamasan points he got from the 80 pegger push him into the British Open with his brother Steve.
Colin Orr (Arundel Glossop) was on the silver birch tree where he pole fished caster for 6-9-5 which included a 3lb bream
Others :
Dave Ellis (Irby) 3-13-8
John Graham (Leigh) 3-13-2

Turning over the page there’s a couple of gruellers reported……………….. Image

First on the Broomhill match, it reads
‘The wind was so bad on the Staffs Worcs canl at Rodbaston that most of the pegs were moved to the more sheltered Otherton lock section near Penkridge.
The move paid off when Tony Cunningham (Fletcher’s tackle) caught more than everone else put together.
He had 20 carp to 8oz plus six roach all taken on caster from the Otherton length for 7-12-0.
John Watkins (BBL) was second with 1-7-6 of gudgeon plus a carp and two roach.
Steve Thomas (Fletcher’s Tackle) also had two carp and added two roach for 0-14-8, leaving Norman Bullock (Broomhill) fourth with 0-12-9 of gudgeon.’

On the same page was a Grueller that I’d have been proud of……….. Image

The headline…………..

The £100 stickleback! Image

‘The Welsh Federation Water Queen on wind last Roath Park Lake produced just two sticklebacks.
Terry Richardson (Ringwood) found his five dram tiddler taken on ledgered pinkie worth £100 and former Welsh National champion peter Spooner (Pontardawe) was second with a 4 dram stckleback’

Don’t get moaning at my matches Image

Some of mine are proverbial bagging sessions in comparison Image

Sounds like it may have also been tough on the Loughborough Soar that weekend too…. :o

The report reads

‘Soar expert Pete Exton (Melton Fox) found noted peg two on the Abbey to his liking with three chub to stick float and maggot for a winning 7-12-0 in the Loughborough Soar Open.

Alan Knight (Ibstock) tempted twelve smaller chub on an 11 metre pole and maggot combination for 6-6-0 and second place.

Some anglers rued throwing back a couple of fish Image when they learnt that 1-13-0 had made the frame.
Others
Keith Dowle (Smithies Browning) 4-6-0
Pete Warren (Middy) 3-2-0
John Jarham (Barrow) 1-15-0
Steve Fletcher (Melton Fox) 1-13-0’

On the same page was a match report that puts some of my gruellers to shame……. Image

The headline was ‘Dave drew an aquarium’ and it read as follows

'The River Chelmer at Speeney was dire for the 57 anglers in the Purple Patch Open but there was one angler who didn’t complain.

Dave Savill had a fish every cast from start to finish and included practically every species in his 28-12-0 winning net.

To rub salt into the wounds of the others no-one else had a bite and the Bromages angler picket up £377 in pools money’ Image

Worth a Image Image Image that report Image
