Hi Guys, apologies for being off the radar for a spell but a bout of illness and a very dickie PC are to blame, - that's my story anyway. A fair while back there was quite a debate as regards to the Macphersons Paints backed UK Championships.
This was printed in Coarse Angler, I have tried to copy it word by word; there maybe the odd error but the meaning is definite. It was in the September 1987 issue, page 47. With these words were also, "The official journal of the National Federation of Anglers@.
Here goes and hold on to your seats! Just 60 of the country's top matchmen will compete in the 4 heats of this Championship, the premier event in the angling calendar, organised by the NFA. There is 15,000 pounds (sterling) available in prize money and the heats have been chosen in an effort to give a fair opportunity to all the entrants. Tuesday Sept 1 sees sees the opening heat at Carr Mill Dam, St Helens in the home county of Macphersons Paints whose generous sponsorship has rescued the Championship. Heats follow on the River Trent at Holme Marsh, the Warwickshire Avon at Twyford Farm and culminating on the rowing course at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepoint.
The winner of each heat will receive 500 pounds the second 300 third 200 and all twelve peg section winners will receive 100 pounds. The overall winner of the Macphersons Paints UK Championships will win 4000 pounds, second 2000, third 1000, fourth 500 pounds, next 450 pounds, then 400, 350, 300, 250 down to 10th place and 200 pounds.
