After two days there is no arguing with the Phenomenon that is Mr V. Whilst the Stewards are discussing his knowledge of horse racing he has scaled to the dizzy heights and now tops the Tipsters League with 25 points. He has a good lead too as Barrow Bill, The Football Pundit, Bill Yards and Tony F are all locked together on 19 points and Long Eatons Finest (maybe it a brew after all) on 18 points.

All still to play for.

In case you had heard the rumours the Stewards were gate crashed by Bunga Blatter today. The Stewards kept shouting it's a Swiss but Bunga kept coughing and spluttering like someone demented shouting out catarrh, catarrh.
The Stewards who are getting on in years realised that Bunga wanted Royal Ascot moving to Qatar and dismissed him. :thumsup :fistycuffs

Well, Ladies Day has already got off to a shocking start for the Stewards so much so that Ken Dodd was seen buying half a shandy.
They met early this morning following a written request by the Football Pundit (aka Dodge) that all the horses should run with top hats on. It was felt that this suggestion was particularly uncalled for as the hats could easily hold some type of speed enhancing drugs. The case was dismissed and the Football Pundit was warned not to waste the Stewards time. :surprise

More of a concern to the Stewards was that Marion Jones, the renowned athlete and the epitome of fairness had entered the Gold Cup, 4.20pm this afternoon. After considering it being Ladies Day and finding nothing in the rules to deter this they were going to let her take her place. However at this point Ben Johnson the Steward with the proudest record when it comes to fairness, stepped in. Ben had spotted 'Mars' - if you are in with the crowd that is what she is called, on a practise race with a horse appropriately call Forgotten Rules, on Ascot Heath. The alarm bells started ringing when Mars beat the Gold Cup favourite by a distance. The Stewards were still going to let her take her chance until Ben stated that she passed the post with a Mars Bar stuck up an inappropriate orifice. The Stewards were still going to let he take her chance but totally changed their tune when she point blank refused to keep the wrapper on the offending speed enhancing object due to some archaic advertising rights. The case was herewith dismissed and Mars has now lost her sponsorship but disturbingly has another one with the 'Day-Glo Candle Company.'

2.30 Log Out Island
3.05 Time Test

Day Three saw some brave selections but on this auspicious occasion Long Eaton's Finest took a day off from brewing and fishing to close the gap with Long time leader Mr V. With two full days left it is all still to play for and it could be an even closer finish than when Foinavon won the Grand National.

Todays: Long Eaton's Finest 15, Bill Yards 12, mr V 11, Barrow Bill 10, Tony F and the Football Pundit dead heating on 9.

The League is: Mr V 36, Long Eaton's Finest 33, Bill Yards 31, Barrow Bill 29, Tony F and the Football Pundit both on 28.

Looks a good card tomorrow, better than them red 'uns the Football Pundit dishes out :thumsup

****Stewards Enquiry****

The Stewards have discussed Mr Vs selections for Saturday and really have no objections about producing them early. They have, however took slight exception to the selections of Postponed and Divine and consider that he might just have too much 'stable info'. They are letting it go this time but if those two win it will subject to yet another enquiry.

They also discussed the Football Pundits assessment of some £40,000,000 transfer bid but decided that this sum of money only existed in Etihad terms. When exchanged it amounts to three sheets of Asda brand toilet paper. No further action will be taken by the Stewards who are seeking a quiet day.

Selections:
2.30 Spanish Romance
3.05 Stravagante
3.40 Limato (NAP)

Aloft saved the pennies today for most but despite the brilliant racing it was hard to find winners unless you had been drinking Long Eaton's Finest all day. The man from the east of the region bagged up with no less than 16 points causing the Stewards to meet before tomorrows meeting gets under way to explain the sudden change in performances since the first few days of the meeting! Bill Yards polished the pin again to nobble 10 points with a dead heat with the Football Pundit, Tony F and Barrow Bill all on 8. Mr V was reading the wrong messages and returned 3 points.

With just tomorrow to go it is really an open book but Long Eaton's Finest has a distinct advantage now with 49 pints or should that be points. Bill Yards has crept into second with 41 points from Mr V 39, Barrow Bill 37 with Tony F and the Football Pundit still in with a tickle on 36 points each. :thumsup :thumsup
