Thanks chaps
im still on a mega high!
Saturday 3rd May, 1st Jinx Match 2008
The day started off nicely, sun was shining for a start, hopefully we would dodge the rain today for the 1st match of the Jinx Series 2008 8-)
We left home at 7:35am looking forward to the day ahead. our 1st phone call to see if we were awake and left was at 7:40am from Ade (Slim Shady). Nice to know friends know what we are like for time-keeping! ;)
After missing Asda for a cream cake to start the day (I needed loo before then!), we arrived at Rolfs around 10am I think, dipped the nets and off went the draw.
I new for this match, and all other Rolfs matches we are on this year I have got to improve my feeding a heck of a lot. Usually I don’t feed enough and don’t get as much weight as I should. So this would be a challenge to use more than 1 or 2 bags of pellets!! :o
Another personal challenge for me is improving playing fish, ie straightening my arm more whilst landing them. I do have trouble and it kills me doing it, but it would be a challenge to improve. So that was another mission.
I drew Peg 20 and went to find Clive (pairs partner), Steve and John Bennet for advice on how to fish my Peg. Sounded good to me, the bushes to my left and in front ideally 8mtrs (I stayed at 6mtrs though as I only had the Drag n Net!).
The all in was to be at 12:30, I started off in front of me for 10mis whilst still feeding the margin. I had a couple of finicky bites but they didn’t hook themselves. So I went and had a look in the margins whilst still feeding 2 swims. At 12:50pm I had my first fish, and shouted the usual ‘YESSSSSS!’ :D that was one aim completed, caught my first fish and I was a happy bunny, cant remember if it was a small carp or the 5lb 12oz bream I had.
Still feeding rapidly I was getting bites in the margins on 11mm Catmeat GOT Hooker Pellets, meat and sweet corn. And along came a few more carp! They were very picky about what they wanted today, one minute it was meat then corn, eventually they got a good taste for 11mm Catmeat Pellets and they stuck with it!
Why is that the smaller carp around the 6/7lb mark ALWAYS take longer to get in than an 11/13lb’er?!! Its something ill never understand. Some of them gave me the right run around.
Think I ended up with about 10 fish on the board (some were 6lb+ that I was weighing- I just had to get off box and have a little walk stretch legs!)
Enjoyed the match a lot, although it did go quiet and I was thinking maybe that’s it for the day the fish have buggered off somewhere else. By then I had about 40lb on the board.
All of a sudden it was like they all woke up, 1 fish after another, couple of times I didn’t have time to feed again! They were just there ready and waiting to be caught.
I was looking around seeing what others were doing, I could see Clive, Slim, Steve, Kev, Keith, Mitch, Jon, Dirk and Paul. every time I looked up Slim was playing a fish or landing one. Steve and Clive were going steady.
I went for a quick walk to the car to get jacket as it started to drizzle, when I came back it stopped- typical! Clive put it into my mind I could easily catch 100lb+ today, I didn’t want to get my hopes too high but thought it may be possible! :-X
At the all out I went and added up my weight on the board, with just the lb’s I had 105lb, that wasn’t including the ounces (cant add them up)!! I had to shout ’Yes I’ve done the ton!’ rang Dad incase he didn’t hear me! I was, and still am over the moon, nearest I got to the ton was 98lb last year! Its great to have the feeling of yes finally done it. Next step will be 150lb!
As I was packing away SimpleSimon rang to see how we got on (he was already committed to a Club Match so didn’t fish with us today). Pleased I got the 100lb+.
Great to be sat in t-shirt all day with the sun shining, caught the sun on my face and arms, and its only May! 8-)
Mission completed! I fed a total of about 3 or 4 bags of pellets, which I am very happy about, got to a stage with about an hour and a half to go where I was chucking it in by the handful rather than a few at a time. So I defiantly improved my feeding!
My biggest fish of the day was a 13lb common. Had a bream that weighed 5lb 12oz, and a few other sized carp. About 8 or 10 little uns in my net.
I was thinking I had about 20lb in my net, total weighed in was 149lb! Very happy to of got that, I did loose about 5 fish the hook pulled.
Very pleasant day, nice to see everyone caught and enjoy themselves although some being frustrated. Nice to meet the new guys to the series- welcome! Well Done to Paul who got his 1st ton, Slim for only fishing Rolfs a couple of times, newbie to the series and whooping all of us! Lets do it all again next time.
Got to mention that Jon went for a swim at the end of the match! We did get it on camera. AND Steve had a holey keepnet and lost a heck of a lot of fish, I guessed he had over 100lb from when I was looking at him, ended up 57lb stayed in the net)
And yes I did bring a few pound coins home as well as my section win! Thanks all for the Well Done's and cuddles! Happy days!
I did take pictures, I will post them later this evening, got home not much before midnight bit of sleep, got up and got these done for you guys!
June 7th is the next match, hope to see everybody there!
Broke my landing net handle on a fish so im going to buy another with my winnings, cheers for the lend of a spare Keith ;)
