Following a conversation with Tony this evening he had decided he needs to check out his journey time to Puddledock to make sure he is not late for his breakfast on match day.
It seems an ideal time for me to accompany him as I need to see if I can get them to open earlier for breakfast so you guys can get fed. Whilst there I will take the opportunity to walk round the lake and plan the pegging for the match.

If anyone wants to join us on this purely fact finding mission on this coming Friday 25th then please let me know. Please do not bother to thank us for giving up our time as we are happy to do this for the benefit of the club members. Image Image

Cant you get the limo to pick you up from Puddledock and take you to the airport after the match. We will look after your gear until you get back.

We will even take your new pole for a day out at Colemans as its about time it caught a few fish and had a proper workout. Image Image Image

Well we went and saw and found out the facts on our Fact Finding Mission. There are many positives about the place which are.

Its easy to get to and only 30 minutes from home for me. Image

The whole place is well maintained
The pegs are good most being paving slabs on the natural bank.
The lake has 30 pegs which will mean you can all have at least one spare peg next to you.
The car parks are large and have plenty of room for everyone.

The cafe is very good and the bacon sandwich I had for lunch was first class. They do not usually open until 8.30 on Saturdays but have agreed to open around 7.45 to 8.00 for you. ( The fishery doesnt open until 7.30 anyway.)

Well so much for a fact finding visit Image

Dave and I managed 4 fish each in about six hours and not many more bites either Image

I had an F1 and a gold fish each about 1lb on the method/corn to the island in 2 hours. Down the margin a mirror of about 5lb on maggot and a common of 4lb on paste. Not a single bite from down the track. Baits tried - maggot, hard pellet, soft hookers, corn meat, paste. On the deck, up in the water, mid water - you name it.

Yes they were spawning but there was a nice breeze/ripple so would have thought we would get a few. Not even a single silver on the maggot - where were they?Image

So I come away with less ideas about how to fish this place than when I started. Hopefully they wont be spawning by the time of our match so it has to get better doesn't it? :-?

According to the bailiff the best match weight out of this lake this year was 90lb which he seemed to think was exceptional, with 30-40lb to win being the norm.
Right now that sounds like a brilliant weight. Image

Keywords: tough, grim, hard, empty Image

Key tactic: take as long as you like for breakfast
