Joff, sounds like a good session. I've been on the soar and never really fished the bread. What sort of distance out u been fishing bread and hemp. How are you feeding the bread to ensure it doesn't spread everywhere. Is it liquidised ? And what quantitys of feed is going in during a session. I want to give this method a try when I go pleasure fishing next. What section did u fish, I generally go soar lane and do u think it would still work on this part of the soar.

baggin barker nothing wrong at soar lane towards the pub its just as solid in the winter mate.i bait dropper all my bread punch normally a medium one to start and then for topping up the small one i always feed two lines if not three at the start if i'm on a fishy area the reason for doing this is because i can still fish one of the lines while i'm topping up another and it means your not taking fish from the same area all match .if i'm not on a good area i might only feed two lines one with a medium and one with a small ,i would always use a larger punch size for a start just to see if there are any bonus fish about as normally they are the first to have a go if not i work down the punches
on a good peg you could feed two loafs so i always do two loafs sometimes most comes back with you i mix hemp with it as well and most of the time i will try it [ ::)if i haven't forgot it your punch doesn't need to be really fine on the river well not as fine as you'd use on the canal rigs i normally have a long line and anything from 0.8 floats to o.4s bulk and two or three droppers

I fish it different ,heavy rigs, short lines for bread (0.8g to 1.5g), 0.10mm hooklength, size 18. Bulk with 4 11's down. Vary between 2inch off and 4 inch on. I try to catch on a 4mm punch, but will also use 5 and 6. Bigger sizes when I am fishing on the deck. I will feed hemp in my bread feed which is just liquidised bread with a bit of dry punch crumb. I feed two large baitdroppers full with approx 200 grains of hemp. I will feed this where I think my best roach line will be ( generally 13/14.5m. I use long stemmed bait droppers of about 12 inches. I use 5 or 6 elastic through 3. My tension on the elastic is that I can swing a 3oz roach to hand on the no. 5 on a top 4 rig. In a good area you can top up quite regular. I feed hemp over the top and try it after an hour. My last bread top up will normally be at 3/4 of an hour and then for this 15 min spell I increase my loose feed. I will often start on my bread rig and this maybe the only rig you will need, but a lighter strung bulk is there for the different presentation. Long lines not so effective in winter due to how the roach feed. Most bites are between 8 inch off to on deck so in deep water not such a problem as the roach generally look straight on or down.Well that's my thoughts. Totally different in summer / autumn as the roach come up in all layers in a loose feed approach, therefore are looking upwards to intercept the bait. This has a knock on effect to a pole over their heads causing the shoal to become wary and drop up or down the peg therefore long lines become important.
Sounds crude but it works, well for me anyway.

i don't think i draw pegs like you choppy interesting views there and i will try yours out mate
bordering on madness
exactly what ive found choppy the more positive rig is miles better even on the hard sections.only thing i do different is i dont put hemp in my bait dropper i feed the hemp quite heavy for winter by caterpult as i think the fall and oil slick brings more fish to the bread and the fish on hemp are falling to a heavy rig kept static as you say different to autume these fish are not looking up.

Good fishing that joff! You could have used the pegs just the other side of the bridge opposite the pub instead of putting the top end in, as its solid there too Rob wooton had a big 11lb there last year in the teams of 4 Oh and just for the record big gaz might have stood more of a chance of beating you lot with his rig in the water!!!

Joff,
Bloke next to me on the last round fished the waggler on peg 5, he fished it very nice and caught **** all, I also caught next to nothing on peg 6. The fish are not present in the shallow water as it's 41/2 to 5 ft deep all the way across, well it was on my peg. The next peg in below was peg 8 Pete Wade was on it and had 4lb in 8ft of water and the better it gets to the peg you fished.
I weighed in 1lb 13oz, so maybe when your free you can show me how to catch these none present fish in these conditions on these pegs you waggler wizard you !!!

funny that choppy yesterday afternoon i fished the between peg 3 and 4 for that reason plus the chimney was smoking
i had thought about it and left the shop at 1pm i took my old watercraft box [its got bits of everything in for the river whether i'm chubbing or roaching] with a feeder rod and a waggler rod nothing else even Barry bloodworth sat behind me and said he'd got more kit than me .
i set up a small cage feeder first and i mean the small one a little bigger than a pop bottle top 2ft tail and bread punch on the hook after 10 minutes and three casts the tip went around a 8oz roach a few more small ones but bites every cast so up the bank and the waggler rod 3AAA with three droppers mybe 5ft again bread punch on the hook this time double punch :-/it get it to stay on the hook not a bite after 15mins so i picked the feeder rod up again ,more to put feed in than anything else .straight round another roach i ended up catching three roach on the waggler i wished i'd taken some pinkies really they might of been better bait
on the feeder i had 20 roach might of had 3 to 4lb at the end still no good in that section at the minute but what a nice afternoon it turned out you can't beat winter roach fishing
funny you posting that comment
i wanted to fish the cobbles but there is a sign saying no fishing opposite the pub better check it out for sunday i'l phone tony

Maybe I will have to have that lesson then !
Spoke to Tony today, did not realise only 4 of you fished as you mentioned the top end and through the bridge not being any good. Maybe your getting confused again !!! Also you said Aaron was on 11 and the photo shows 12 on the pallet, so that put you on 11, or am I getting confused. Anyway I would like to draw there sunday whatever !

12 is a good peg but 11 is the renowned flier!!! Its where the river starts to pick up pace again after it comes around the bend, loads of roach their this time of year.... Should win every match
bordering on madness
does win every match if you dont mess about useing canal rigs on a river 11 is the flyer full stop.
