What about a 12 a side match feature, once a month, along these lines...... A top side, say Dorking / Barnsley etc attending a club venue and fish with 12 of said club members. The 2 teams are mixed in so you have 2 teams, each comprising 6 "top" anglers and 6 club anglers. The top lads learn a bit about the venue from the local lads, but then both teams have the chance to practice (with their new team mates) for one session prior to the match date. (you still with me?)  Image I know most top lads are more than happy to share info with anyone in their team, even if it means beating their own team mates, its a competeive thing, with winning the priority. It will give club anglers the chance to see how the top lads practice, learn, and put their findings into practice, as well as a great experience.  :)  I am sure it would make good reading if a "top lad" and a club angler did their own little report on the experience, from meeting up, initial practice sessions, to the "final match".  :D
It would also give some of the sponsors the chance to put a little bit back into club angling by maybe providing groundbait, floats hooks etc to the "teams" on the day, thus promoting their own products.  Image
Top teams may even find a "star of the future" among the clubman ranks  Image

Paul,

Your idea is quite superb but has one huge drawback and this drawback affects us all, wherever we all work or who we all work for.

If the penny hasn't dropped (I don't mean to be flippant, - you have known me long enough!) that it is one of cost but keep muting the ideas, they are very welcome and are the 'bud' of future ideas, maybe not as a whole but as a part.

I am not saying the two teams you mentioned are part of this but it is not like the 'old' days' when your mags and newspapers cost next to nothing. In those days the likes of say Ivan Marks did this type of thing for absolutely nothing, the last feaure I did with him was the first ever 'recommended' feature where a top angler recommended a top venue. If I remember right I was about twenty minutes on the phone with him and job was done, via notes. I then had quite a few calls from Ivan to make sure this article was right, this I fully admire him for and I was very proud of the fact that he had called me, something he did many times since. All this, except the initial call, were from Ivan so he foot the bill, so to speak.

To be honest guys like this are not about nowadays and in my experience a lot of them will not do this for nothing, Dorking and Barnsley may do this sort of thing for nothing, I just don't know but i do have my doubts.

It isn't just about paying them though, there are photographers/reporters/venues to consider plus the very fact that is there enough top teams that will do this to make it a regular feature? I am not so sure on that one.

Believe me your and other comments are very welcomed and are taken on board. New ideas are always welcomed, I have got through a few 'edaches trying to develop some that will actually work, most of the time without success I may add Image Image Image

We are definitely thinking of the same guy Joff; I thought it was Dave Gough (they did call him Huffy or something like that), he used to be a real good mate of Ivan's. He invented the method feeder. Image Image

Now you've really got me started on trivia!

Where did the word 'Waddler' originate from?; this is one for the northerners and you may not be too surprised at the answer.

It was originally waddler, some still call it that, some waggler. Image Image Image

Your close Joff but it wasn't him or Kevin, - it was Kevin that told me about the origination of this though Image Image Image

Glad I was right with Dave Gough, - met him in Ireland, top guy. Image Image Image

I'm about to try out a new slant on fishing articles on Sunday.
Looking forward to a day with the canal anglers for a change. 8-)

Waddler

I believe it was Dickie Bowker.

It was on a cut match up Leigh somewhere, Dickie bowker had a decent weight even might have won.

Kevin asked him how he caught what he did and his reply was that he used one of those floats (bottom only) that waddled about when you reeled them in.

There you have it, the birth of the waddler Image Image Image Image
