I think it was the Burton "warbler" Reg Whiston who had a big weight of gonks off the Liecester line bridge.

Talking of Barry Chaplin i remember fishing for Derby Railway against Wolverhampton West End at Bridgnorth in a friendly team match-it was the time of standing up all day with a rod in the air waiting for a yank on a block end hemp and caster feeder!
Anyway we were all in the car park discussing tactics when Barry appeared with all the info!!!!!!!!!!! He was told that just over the weeds it was black with gonks-we all rolled about laughing..........45lb won the match

Reg has had some club match weights up to 27lb, his best being from just above the ferry bridge at Burton. I don't think it gets fished much now since the pollution.
