1968 winner, Dave Groom.
I used to fish against (and occasionally with) Dave in the late 80s on the GUC around Leighton Buzzard and Milton Keynes. Fine bream angler, very positive. I remember when Groomy & Mick Wilkins worked out that big white maggot over white crumb was caning the skimmers and bream for a season. They were kind enough to share it and we managed to win a bit of coin! went rather contrary to supercup & squats!

I was on the same section as Alan Wright on the Witham and started on the stick as well. Somewhat unfortunately I didn't bag a decent bream first chuck. I finished with just under 4 lb on the waggler. It is a National that allegedly 'got away' from Ivan. He fished the float all day (same section at Langrick) and got good team points, but it was claimed that after the match someone fished the tip on his peg and had over 50 lb.

re points records.
With the discrepancy in the amount of teams fishing Nationals the average points per angler was declared a much fairer way of deciding the issue.
Notts Fed top that league by quite a way from the Trent National; I believe Shakespeare probably got the closest to that on our cuts; they had a maginally better average then we had in 1986 unless I worked it out wrong.
Now who is that under that crappity smack cap?
