Pete Palmer, Gladding Masters, River Trent - Walter Bower's piece. Blew an absolute gale that day and he won it with quite a low weight. My memories, apart from Pete Palmer winning it were of John Toulson providing a masterclass in stick float fishing - it looked as if he was doing it by remote control. Also Billy Lane fishing his version of the waggler, a big ducker float and bossing the conditions - I think he came fourth. Oh, and a scaffolding tower collapsed and Norman Worth suffered a broken arm.
