Angling Trust Expels Member for Harassment of Staff
The Angling Trust regrets to announce that one of its members has had his membership terminated and been banned from fishing any Angling Trust matches for five years because of his aggressive, rude and potentially criminal harassment on the telephone of two members of staff in the competitions department over issues surrounding the arrangements for matches.
He has been refunded in full, but will not be eligible to fish in forthcoming competitions. His tickets will be passed on to reserves. He has been warned that any further harassment will result in us taking the matter up with the Police.
Angling Trust staff are not employed to be the verbal or physical punch bags for angry members. They do their best to serve anglers and answer their queries, which they did fully and politely in this instance.
Angling Trust matches only take place because of the hard work and dedication of a small team in the office and many trusted volunteers who give up their time to support angling. It is unacceptable to swear and shout at anyone on the telephone, and least of all the people who are dedicated to improving and expanding angling matches for the good of all involved.
We trust that our members will support the defence of our staff in trying circumstances. We will not be publishing the name of the angler concerned or issuing any further comment.

It is incidents like this that make me ashamed to be called a 'match angler'.
As most of you know me you will also know that I am no prude or anything like that and I ran matches for the love of it and for the benefit of several clubs in this area.
Last September I ran the Angling Trust Individual National Championships and some of the abuse I received, albeit from a very tiny minority, was totally intollerable and not acceptable, that was enough for me.
I never named and shamed although word has got around as it inevetibly will in this case. Believe me it is the safest way because of any reprisals (they do happen, this is how low some will sink). After all the Angling Trust contact numbers are not too difficult to find as are mine.
I packed up running matches through this. Indirectly it has cost the area and local clubs a lot so much so that my own club is now struggling somewhat.
At the end of the day, ALL match organisers, whether they get a renumeration or not, should not be treated this way, it just isn't good enough, they are spoiling the enjoyment of thousands.
Only I know what distress this called me; I had no choice but to take fishing home with me as most of the organising/communications was actually done from there.
These idiots should find another hobby or at least run matches themselves. We all know what the answer would be to that suggestion.
This is only my opinion and I feel I have said more than enough on this matter.
It all sounds a bit drastic, I know, but when you have been at the 'wrong end' of this situation it is a bit different.

I find that people who cannot articulate themselves when they need to, become aggressive as this is the only form of communication they know. It's the school bully in an adult form.
It amazing when things are not going their way, then its everyone elses fault. How about taking some responsibilty for your own lives and stop trying bully your way through life! Total Loser! Ban him for life and burn his kit , may be a bit far burning his stuff but it would send a message out to others
