If you look at the temperatures it is no more than -6 here and -7 at Shrewsbury.
We made the Midlands News this morning, -14 at 7.30 am.

The lanes are full of packed ice around here and I am crappity smack froz.

In Birmingham it is apparently +2

I have the central heating on, every fire and hot air fans going and it is still crappity smack freezing in my crappity smack house. My keepnet is outside; you can snap it in two, it is that frozen.

Now thats ridiculous Gibbo. Jof or Bill might be best to answer this, can t
you get em to sign a disclaimer when they pay and draw if they want to fish it that badly. Wouldnt that then take the resposibility away from the organiser, after all you are not sent on a heath and safety course by the angling trust so that liability can roll down hill if there is a problem. IMHO all anglers would sign it. :)

I have read about this 'disclaimer' business before; I thank Lala might know more about this than I do.

I know all matches run on Izaak Walton (Stafford) AA waters carried a very decent insurance. Basically the match itself was insured against any accident and that included the organiser who, (I can say it now often had over £2000 of anglers money hid in the lining of my carryall!!!!

As far as I can remember we only had one incident when some cows got through a 'roped off' area in a field and did some paint damage to a few cars. The Insurance Co were well satisfied we had done as much preventative measures as we could and paid up without any problem.

However, I must admit these are are quite hard times, weather wise, and organisers, because of what they actually, also have a conscience. They are always looking behind them in matches for problems; only an organiser will know what I mean by this. To put a bluntly no amount of insurace is going to help a guy buried under thick ice. Sorry to put it that bluntly but there you go.

As an afterthought if every angler did sign the 'disclaimer' is it worth the paper it is written on without the match organiser going to an Insurance Company and checking out the fine print, Remember the laws on this type of thing are changing all the time; what applied twelve months ago may not apply now.

Over to you LaLa. Image Image Image

I might be on telly today as I am Telford for the UK snooker all day.

If anyone comes and nicks my gear please replace the roof tiles as I have had two claims for them already Image Image Please smile for the camera as well as it is switched onImage

REPECTED ANGLERS like dodge, lloydy ,bill years of experience its simple nowadays not worth the risk

TED CARTER SOUTHPORT
  Re: match cancellations
Reply #9 - Dec 7th, 2010 at 3:58pm      It only takes one angler to go under the ice and all hell would break loose , it simply isnt worth it in my honest opinion. Also with the ice being so thick and it still will be in most places come sunday morning there will always be one or two who would think of venturing onto the ice to cut it
quoted by dodge

It happened on one of lala,s matches a couple of years ago ...... we got away with that one ....just !

It simply isnt worth the risk.

i will not run matches with ice on the canal or river what ever the risk, me personally wouldn't want to live with it on my conscience with those famous words if only I'd cancelled it :-/ :-/
i wonder how many anglers would stand bye you  Image Image
like bill said the laws change year in year out and i can only go on what I've learnt from health and safety in my business the law might be completely different one thing is for sure with atticudes of some anglers that think they can run matches willy nilly it a sure thing before long it will happen  :-/ :-/
