fishing yesterday
off i went with my old watercraft box and slimmed down rod bag one stick float rod one landing net and a bank stick the box was filled with a few stick floats, wagglers and bait the only other bit of kit was my keepnet easy as i could get it[and wondered why i have a rive box thats full of everything i never use i parked at my mums and headed off over the fields to the bottom end of the brinks in fact the end peg .
it was always pegged at one time and use to win the section every time its a great stick float peg and normally the fish are down the peg 4 or 5 rod lengths down the peg
its about 7ft deep and you trot down as far as you can
loose feeding caster for a start then a few bronze maggots this switch over seams to work well
after half a hour i was catching lovely roach from 5oz to nearly a pound good old fashion fishing and for the first time i doubted my match fishing to strike at a bite 5 rod lengths down your peg is something else a great feeling i finished the afternoon having caught 4 or 5lb of fish but it wasn't the amount of fish it was the way i fished for them something theses young anglers will never do
i packed up and had a cup of tea with mum before collecting the kids from school and all the way home i had a little smile about the afternoons fishing
i would seriously have a go yourself it bring back all that magic simply brilliant
i'm now going to keep this tackle just for this reason and mybe take the dogs next time

River + Roach + Stick Float = Heaven
Not drawn a peg in a year where I could use the stick, but I try to do a Joff around this time of year on the Bristol Avon. Enjoy it every time!

I would recommend any of you that like stickfloat fishing then get yourself on the Wye at Belmont, it is proper but be warned Joff it is a mans river as it actually fishes best with 4, 5 or even 6 foot on .

Second that Dan; best fishing river there is.
Last time I fished Belmont was three years ago for a feature for AM. It was very low and clear but still had over 20 lbs, mainly great big stonking roach, on stick and caster. Woody , good egg, did me groundbait. I couldn't chuck that lot in so I took the rest home, - it lasted me over six months on the cuts when I sieved it down. Don't tell him ffs!!!!

Havent fished the Wye since 1969 I think it was - Honky Tonk Women was in the top 10
Gotta give it another bash one of the days.......
Have often tinkered over the years with booking a club match on there - but have so far tempered my desire to return (with the club) because of the anticipated reaction I might get.........
