Barnsley On The Lookout For New Sponsor - 25/11/2010
The Barnsley Blacks have long been a famous match fishing team in the UK, with over 40 years’ history, but over the past 10 years or so they have often played second fiddle to the likes of Daiwa Dorking and Kamasan Starlets.
Since winning the World Club Classic, captain Glen Lawrence is excited about what the future holds for the team. “I took over the captaincy 12 months ago and was extremely excited at the prospect,” he said. “When Andy Oldham was in charge he made the decision to sign several young up-and-coming anglers with a view to strengthening the squad in the future. This in turn has rejuvenated the other lads and I believe this team will do many great things for years to come.
“I also think that the World Club Classic has given team fishing another much-needed ‘big match’ and we are grateful to Preston Innovations for sponsoring the event, which we now believe to be the most important match of the team fishing calendar.” The team is currently on the lookout for a new main sponsor after severing its ties with long-term sponsor Maver. “I’d like to say a big thank you to Maver for supporting us for the past 10 years,” added Glen. “We’re now looking elsewhere for a deal that will help to take the team to another level and compete not just domestically but on the international stage as well.”
The future looks very promising for the Barnsley Blacks, and who would bet against them bringing home gold from the World Club Champs in Serbia?
