Dave asked me to put some directions up on how to get to the pub for those having breakfasts: Great Wakering High Street runs west/east, the Anchor Hotel is the last pub on the right a few hundred yards before the High Street ends and the road branches left (at a mini roundabout) onto Common Road. As you will all be coming from a westerly direction you will pass 3 other pubs before you get to the Anchor Hotel (the Red Lion, the Exhibition and the White Hart - but not necessarily in that order).

Poor old Dave - what a bummer. Best thing is to get the motor back home if he has breakdown cover, and work out the best/least cost option from there. Sounds like it may be time for a new motor.

Fished Mill Barn Reservoir today - was catching a fish a chuck, more or less. Only managed one carp of around 8lb which is very unusual as I normally expect at least half a dozen this time of year - they were definately there as you can see and hear them jumping out of the water. I fished peg 18 (I think!) which is about half way between our first and last pegs. I had a maggot feeder cast out about 25 yrds onto a sand bar that runs the length of the lake - I missed quite a few runs but dig connect with a few nice bream upto about 4lbs. Also fished the margins with a pole, which are about 3 feet, I was getting a fish a cast, roach, rudd (to about 1lb) and perch (to about 2lb). The bigger rudd and perch were being caught high up in the water on maggot and the roach on sweetcorn and pellet just above bottom. The only carp was on sweetcorn. All in all I probably had a weight of around 40 to 50lb. Hope this helps you plan your tactics for Saturday week!

Nice one Graham. 3' in the margins is nice - lets hope they dont draw too much water off before our match.
I think Keith may be bringing an extra guest, so we may be 11 or 12 for brekkie now and 20 for the match.

Tony,
The less water the better this place fishes. Sometimes you can run across to the other bank using the carp as stepping stones! Joking aside the only problem when the water get too low is that the owner imposes a groundbait ban or the nitrate/nitrite levels get too high. He lost quite a few fish last year for that very reason and as he reckons the lake holds around £200,000 worth of fish (his estimate not mine) you can't blame him. Also everybody note that it's forecast to be a scorcher on Saturday and the pegs don't offer much shelter from the sun.

Just had confirmation that those not wanting breakfast will be welcome in the pub (for a tea/coffee) so that we can do the draw there.

Thanks Graham.
Judy phoned me last night and infortunately she won't be able to make it. :(
She has a throat infection and is a bit below par at the moment.
Get well soon Judy.

Terry phoned yesterday to say that Simon cant make it - sadly his father has just died.
I think that makes us 17/18 for the match.

Graham - I suspect quite a few people will still go direct to the fishery, so I think its best that we do the draw there.

The owner has asked that we all park in the far car park so as not to block in the pleasure anglers that will be there. So after you have gone through the gate from the road drive about a quarter of a mile on a track that goes across a field to another gate on your left which is the entrance to the Reservoir Lake, open the gate and bear left which will take you along a track right next to the lake and continue to the end where the car park is.
