This will be a new venue for us, I have fished one of the lakes on the main complex but only looked round the reservoir a few years ago. Its a big lake and Graham will be able to tell us where we will be pegged. unfortunately I will not be able to attend this time as it clashes with my holiday in Devon.
Graham is the expert on this place and it was his suggestion we try it. From what little I know it has plenty of bigger carp plus some good roach and rudd but Im sure Graham will tell us more and put up any rules we need to know about.

Tony will be looking after the money and draw side of things so help him out by having the right money on the day.

Directions
1. Coming from the A13/Southchurch Road.
2. Go over one roundabout and turn left at Wakering Road.
3. Continue over one roundabout and then turn right onto Southend Road.
4. From Southend Road, Take the 2ND exit onto the
B1017/High Street.
5. At the end of the high street, turn left onto Common Road.
6. Continue down Common Road, you will find us on the left.

Colin went down there yesterday and had about 40lb including 4 carp one of which was a double. He says that the depth at 4 sections was 8ft plus and falling away margins were 2 to 3 ft with sloping banks and mostly no platforms or peg numbers.
There were plenty of carp and one in 4 of them are likely to be doubles but its not carp dominated, also loads of skimmers etc. A couple of local lads had a few carp on the method using 20mm pellets as bait.
Another regular was on the lead/ feeder and usually gets a good few mainly uses maggot hookbaits catching carp. I suspect its that deep that the slivers stay up in the water meaning he doesnt get pestered on maggot.
The car park at the entrance is small and only holds 4 cars but you can drive all the side of the lake to the main car park at the other end and I suspect that will be where will be allocated.

I will try and speak to Graham tonight to see if he can add his thoughts.

Not sure that any of the pubs in the vicinity are open for breakfast. Your best best would be to stop at any of the greasy spoons along the A13 or A127. I know there is one mile or so before Rayleigh on the A127 that does a breakfast for £1.99 (according to the sign outside)!!!!

As for the fishing - I've fished most methods there, float, feeder, method feeder etc. - they all seem to work. One of my best bags there was on floating crust but a couple of years ago before floating baits were banned. I had a very good session last year when I was catching on sweetcorn in the margins - I counted 25 fish ranging from between 5-15lb. I also caught earlier this month using pellet in the margins. However the carp do love maggot which does mean you have a chance at some cracking perch, roach and rudd, as well, that the water holds. If you are targeting the carp be warned that there are plenty of high doubles so beef up you tackle accordingly. See you all there. By the way I'm launching my boat tomorrow!

Hi Dave, count martin Zack and myself in. We havn't fished it, I went there the other day and spoken to the owner, it looked good with a good depth of water having been told in the middle it should be around 30feet and 4 to 8 feet in the margins.
just for your records Great Wavering is one of the dryish places in the uk, a few years ago it had less rainfall than the saraha desert

Hi Dave - I'll be there (probably a good idea seeing as I'm sorting the dosh and the draw). I'm up for a brekkie too. Will check with Jim if he's coming.

Looking at the depth here (assuming they dont take a load out) - I'm tempted to take the baggin' wag even though I find its a bit too much like hard work these days.

Spoke to Graham today and we need a minimum of 8 for Brekkie at £5 for a full english. I suspect John etc will want one so that makes at least 11.
