No. I don't think he was involved then but I could be wrong.

On Nuddy's right or to his left as we look at it is Billy Hughes who famously went fishing for the weekend and when he got back not only his missus had gone but all of his money, furniture etc. Just one packing case left on an uncarpeted floor with a rude note

Don't know about Sid Meads but Pete Burrell and the others you have right.

Just checked I definitely fished that National. 1981 on the River Ancholme at Brigg.
My bus got lost, started one hour late and weighed in 10 ounces, 23 bits and a lace. The only ones to beat me in my section had bream.
This was the National with loads of blanks.
Dave 'keep clear of' Steer won the individual.

Another one in pic must be Micky Thill.
I'll keep thinking

Micky Thill was Essex only blank

Bob Nudd weighed in 3-9-2 (1k650) to finish fifth in his section. Essex won by 26 points, the only time Bob Nudd was in a National winning side.

My brain hurts now.

All these fished for either Catpack/ssex County at around that time.
On second thoughts I don't think Sid Meads is that guy in the pic now.

sid meads for sure ,,,,,,,, Sid used to turn up at Maxey with(Dave from likley lads )Rossi in an S class Merc each and still moan about the price in the little (thief) chef !!!

Think the following year they won the World Club champs, the only British team to do so, oh and Bob Nudd went on to do quite well.

Also remember fishing the Oxford canal alot with Berrows and having a bit to do with Captain America !
Got some of the first proper pole floats off him as we know them today !!!!!!

I remember that National, I was 19 then.
John Illingworth won my section with I think 23lb, I was second with a bream a roach and a perch for 3lb 7oz all caught in the first 10 minutes.
There were loads of blanks, one of our lads blanked next to the winner and our team Derby Angling Association got relegated.

Clapperton is the 'prat in the hat' with his arms around Pete Burrell and Tommy who still fishes the Yare along with Jimmy Randell. Top left is Kenny Rolfe who collects match results for the Anglers Mail.

Does anyone know if the short guy next to Dennis Salmon is Billy Knott Snr? And yes, they did go on to be the only English winners of the World Club Champs.
