TK. Looking on google maps, am I right in thinking you can park behind most pegs on Common Road??

Not sure about right behind your pegs, but its certainly parking by the river a 'good path' along the bank

Cashmores Match 10 2010 - River Avon Evesham
I dont know the Common road stretch but I fished the Crown Meadow at Evesham last friday, peg 5. ( As I did the week before )
Fancying an easy afternoon on my day off I decided it was the place to go, with parking behind the peg and being a river of coure
I'd got in mind how I was going to fish it, chuck a maggot feeder out with just the one rod, nice and simple, just for the pleasure of it. No thoughts whatsoever about how it should be fished, just going to enjoy myself and have a pleasant afternoon.
And it was.
First chuck a perch and thats how it continued, one after another. In between the perch I had a couple of small skimmers and a couple of roach.
Most of the perch were 4-8oz but a couple pushed the pound and one i'm sure was there. They're chunky blighters and if you really look at one, beautifully coloured, absolutely perfect.
The sun was blazing and the water clear. I could see the fish coming back across the river to me from quite a distance but it didnt put them off feeding at all. They were ravenous. Temperature probably nudged 30c
Got fed up after a while and decided to try for some hemp roach at 10m on the pole. Had half a dozen which pleased me as i'd not fished that style on a river before.
I'd miss a couple of bites and then have one, before losing contact. I'd find them somewhere else in the swim and the pattern continued, miss a couple, have one lose, need to find them again and so on. But all very enjoyable. Nice knowing the fish are there and if there had been some colour in the water might have fed properly.
No idea what i'd caught but it was well into double figues and that was without really trying. If I'd been weight interested, i'd have stuck catching those perch. Didnt fish as long as in a match either.
It's hard to believe its the same river and pegs that can seem almost fishless during the Evesham Festival.
I did notice though, that when people stopped to chat or watch on top of the bank, bites slowed. Not stopped, but slowed. Even though I was fishing the far side.
I hope you catch a few up at Common Road and this heartens you. Theres more fish in the river than you might think

Thanks for that little insight Mark - heard that the Common Road section has a greater head of skimmers than the Crown Meadows
Plus should be less pedestrian traffic

Yep. I would expect so, deeper and slower maybe ?
I fished the peg in front of Hampton Ferry cafe a couple of weeks back, after it had produced around 47lb of skimmers.
Hot footed it down there early, in case it was occupied
Anyway, nowt.
But decided they must be around still, so moved next door and had just the one, a big old thing 4-5lb plus bits.

Yep - I originally tried to get us on Crown Meadows at the request of a member, but obviously couldnt until Sept because of the qualifiers.........as we couldnt fish the C M it was suggested that we 'divert' upstream onto Common Road instead which came with positive comments regarding the section.
Good to hear that C W H
