Round 3 Hants Wilts and Dorset AT Winter League
1/11/09 Test Valley Lakes: King, Willow and Embely
Garbolino Blackmore Vale followed on from the previous 2 with another team and Individual win, In fact the Winner on the day was the same as the previous round on the river as well!
Rob Randall, who is showing why he is ‘ to hot to Handle’ As the Garbolino Blackmore Vale Angler drew King Lake and weighed 83.2.0. Rob had Carp to double figures on the soft pellet on the deck at 13m from the start, And had a few on a closer line later in the day. Rob collected £130 for his efforts.
In second place in the same section as the winner was Darryl Felleto of SPRO Dorset Raiders. Darryl had 72.13.0 using similar tactics to Rob
Third for the second round running was Ex England Youth Angler Will Bohne, again fishing for Garbolino Blackmore Vale, Will was on a corner peg on King Lake and had 67.12.0 catching a lot of fish on his ‘Long Edge’ facing towards the Dam Wall. Will caught most of his fish on 6mm Expander pellets.
The final three Frame places all came from King Lake. Fourth Place went to; James Hillier of Challis Tackle Andover, James had 65.12.0
Fifth; Rich Allen of Mossella Eastleigh with 57.15.0
And finally in Sixth, Julian Taylor of SPRO Dorset Raiders with 52.14

Because of the 3 sections on King supplying all of the framers it was decided the payout would be split with the top 3 being paid on King and Willow Lakes and the Top 3 on the much harder Embely Lake.
Benefiting from this was Richard Chave of Garbolino Blackmore Vale who put 10 Eels and about 30 embryo roach in the net to weigh 10.8.8 Richard Collected £150, which was more than the winner as one team had 2 anglers short and they were both on the ‘good’ lakes!
2nd on Embely John Gray, Garbolino Blackmore Vale 8.15.0
3rd on Embely John Moody, SPRO Dorset Raiders 8.4.0 All the top 3 here had eels and Roach in there catches

On the Team Front Garbolino Blackmore Vale had a great day with 7 section winners and 3 section seconds, to set a record in the league with only 3 section points dropped!

1st Rob Randall Garbolino Blackmore Vale 83.2.0

Ok you’ve seen the results above, here’s  my match:
I drew peg G6 which was on permanent peg 15 on Embely Lake which was 4 pegs further along from were I came second on the practice match a week earlier. I was pleased to draw Embely as I had done well on their the previous week and had decided a plan for the 5 of our anglers who would be on there at the Team meeting ( weekly p1ss up) on the Thursday night.
The Previous week I had caught a lot of roach over groundbait and joker but, also had about 15-20 on hemp which I thought made all the difference. Also that week a lot of Eels were hooked but only about 2 were landed. At the meeting we decided to put a swim in for these long at 14.5M and have a go early as the groundbait line settled.
These are the rigs I set up:
1. 4x14 Trabucco Ultimate 1 on 0.09mm Garbo- line, with a bulk of shot and 3 no 11 droppers  0.06mm bottom to an 22  Image IM1  hook Fished touching bottom at 11M & 5M. no 2 Elastic
2. 4x12 Trabucco ultimate 1 on 0.09mm Garbo- line, spread bulk of no.11’s   0.06mm bottom to a 22 Image IM1 hook Fished just off bottom at 11M & 5M. no.2 Elastic
3. 0.2grm Garbolino DS9 on 0.09mm Garbo- line, spread no 11’s 0.06mm bottom to an 20 Drennan  polemaster competition  hook- for Hemp at 11M at an angle. no.3 Elastic
4. 0.6grm Rive series 2  -0.14mm Garbo- line, bulk of 10’s and 3 no 10 droppers  0.12mm bottom to an 18  Drennan  super carbon maggot hook Fished touching a floats length  on bottom for Eels, chunks of worm or double maggot as bait at 14.5M. no.10 Elastic
5. 12ft Normark microlight, Daiwa 1657dm, 2lb maxima 5bb Drennan Stillwater blue float, 0.08mm Garbo-line 22 Drennan super carbon maggot
My mix of Groundbait was VDE Supercup &, Supermatch with some molehill soil( I still won’t pay for French mud!!)
And at the start I Chopped up about 30 Worms added a large pinch of maggots and the same of casters and cupped them into the Eel line at 14.5M, then made up 5 double handfuls of Groundbait with 200ml of joker, a handful of frozen pinkies and the same of casters. Made 7 balls that would fit my big pole cup. And cupped 6 in at 11M,and one in at 5M then cupped a half a 250ml pot of hemp off to the right at 11M, and I drip fed it all match, but unlike the previous week, didn’t get a bite on it!
I had 5 minutes long for the eels but never had a touch then went to 11M were I started to get minute roach, a change to pinkie and maggot didn’t change there size much. Nor did coming 6” off the deck on the lighter rig! So I swapped to 5m thinking that the small fish activity may be less, due to there being less bait and although I got a few better roach it wasn’t going mad. The hemp was tried after an hour without a sniff. Opposite me I could see 6 anglers and after about an hour and a half 3 of them had an eel each, so they were feeding better that last week, maybe due to all the rain we had had overnight and were currently having? So I re-feed the eel line again with the same amount as the start and gave it 15mins to settle whist passing the time catching tiny roach. So After 2 hours on went the extensions and out went half a dendrobena and within 3-4 minutes I was shipping back with an angry 1lb eel on the other end, After tying on another hook I repeated this 2 more times! And then thought about re-feeding And this was the pattern for the rest of the day; Have a couple re-feed and catch 2 more, in the end I had 10 in the net but had been bitten off a couple of times, once, as I was about to net the fifth one, and towards the end when one snagged me out towards the middle. But I was happy with the loss rate after hearing about others at the end who had lost a lot more whilst netting a lot less!
I weighed 10.8.8, and with 2,3lb weights, a 2lb and 2 anglers under 2lb in the section I was happy with my day. I was  Even happier when I had found I had won the whole lake as well!  Back at the car park I found that out of the 5 sections on the lake Garbolino Blackmore Vale had 4 section winners and a second, so the plan had worked well !!
On the other 2 lakes we had only dropped a point a lake making 57 points out of 60!
Individually I now have 3 section wins which puts me top with Team mate Mike ‘Buzzer’ Burntsen, but I have about 6oz more than him over the 3 matches. However the next 2 matches are on ‘Vermin’ Waters with pellets the top bait- My 2 most hated things!! So I have some learning to do over the next couple of weeks!

Hants wilts and Dorset winter League Practice match 8/11/09
29 Fished
Todber Manor Fisheries Park and White Post Lakes

Despite the strong winds there were some reasonable weights on the 2 lakes with 100lb+ bags winning each lake.
First on the day was Garbolino Blackmore Vale Angler Will Bohnie who was pegged on 36 on the back bank of Park Lake Will caught 132lb (sorry don’t know the oz’s) Mostly Carp with only 10 or so F1’s, by targeting the far bank of the snake lake at 14.5M with Soft 6mm pellet over micros.
The next weight was on White post lake, where Jamie (cosmo) Smith, Wiltshire Angling had 103lb of Carp on Corn, caught over and Down the Right hand Margin.
Back to Park for the next Weight, 85lb taken by George Perkins of Sensas Viaduct who was pegged on the end Peg 37 next to the winner.

Ok you’ve seen the results above, here’s my match:
I drew peg D4 which was on permanent peg 24 on Park Lake which was one of the 3 pegs on the short section with my back to Wadmill lake. At the meeting (weekly yellow stream up) we decided to put a swim in right across at 14.5M for Carp and another at 11 or 13M for F1’s as well as a margin swim if you had some room. Also a close swim with maggot for Roach and skimmers, as I had about 18lb of them + 4 carp in the practice the week before in the middle of the match when little else was feeding.
These are the rigs I set up:
1. 0.2g Garbolino DC6 on 0.16mm Garbo- line, with a bulk of stotz and 2 no 11 droppers 0.12mm bottom to an 18 Colmic 501 hook For the inside line with white Hydro.
2. 0.2g Garbolino DC15 on 0.16mm Garbo- line, spread bulk of no.11’s 0.14mm bottom to a 16 Colmic 501 hook Fished at 14.5M with Grey Hydro
3. 0.2grm Garbolino DC15 on 0.16mm Garbo- line, spread no 11’s 0.12mm bottom to an 18 Colmic 501 hook Fished at 14.5M with white hydro
4. 0.2g Garbolino DC6 -0.14mm Garbo- line, bulk of 10’s and 2 no 11 droppers 0.10mm bottom to an 18 Drennan Silverfish Pellet hook Fished at 13M for F1’s with Black Preston no8 Elastic through 3 sections
5. 4x12 Preston silver dura float 0.16mm Garbo line straight through to a 16 Colmic 501 hook fished in the margins with Black Hydro
At the start I fed all the lines across with a sprinkling of dampened micros on all lines and fed 4mm pellets and corn on the margin line 6 sections along the bank
Then went straight across with corn on the hook and a sprinkling of micros in the pot each cast The first 5 fish were all different; An F1, followed by a roach, then a rudd, a skimmer and then finally a carp of about 2lb. In the first hour I had 5 carp all on the 0.14mm rig but felt that a change to the lighter one with 0.12mm and white hydro would help make bites. Most of the early mug fish fell to corn but a swap to a 6mm expander and finally a 4mm expander kept the carp coming. 5 from the margin swim in the last hour boosted my total to 15 and a weight of 38lb 11oz which was good enough for second in the section. The section went: D1 17lb D2 43lb D3 29lb D4 (me) 38lb D5 20lb D6 21lb
Back at the car park I found that out of the 6 sections on the lake Garbolino Blackmore Vale had 4 section winners a second and a 4th, Back at the results I found out that
on the other 2 lakes we had 2 section winners a second and a 4th making 52 points out of 60!
Individually I now have 3 section wins and a second which puts me top with Team mates Rob Randall and Will Bonhe but they have about 100lb more than me over the 4 matches!!! So I’m relegated to 3rd Boo
Next round its more Polish Turkey’s (Carp) on Salisbury’s Withrington Farm Fishery.

Sorry I'm a week late with match 5 guys, but I've only just dried out from it :(

Winner this week was Andover’s Former National winner Les Thirlaway  who was pegged on the inner snake and caught  a winning 65lb of Carp on corn
In 2nd Place was the ‘Jolly Green Giant’ himself- Dave Hydes, Andover, who like the winner also fished his favourite bait for 50lb 15oz which was a whole 1oz more that his team mate, Stu (doesn’t know what a bad peg looks like!!)  Dabs  ;)  who was pegged on the outer snake and again fished corn for 50lb 14oz
4th was Steve Trevett of Salisbury  steve was pegged on Peg 33 on the outer snake and fished across for 50lb 1/2oz of carp
Dave Self of Mossella Eastleigh was 5th with 42lb 10oz  of Carp from the inner snake.
And Finally Rob Randall of Garbolino Blackmore Vale was 6th with 41lb   of Carp from the inner snake.

Ok you’ve seen the results above, here’s my match:
I drew peg D5 which was on permanent peg 38 on the outer snake, when I wandered around the practice match on Wednesday, it didn’t appear to much cop, unlike earlier 30’s which the framers come from, unfortunately theses were all in my section!
Peg 38 is also on one of the wide corners which meant I had to fish with 16M of pole + a short dolly butt to get tight across and with the strong winds and rain coming in and across me it wasn’t a very special day- But it gets worse!!
These are the rigs I set up:
1. Garbolino DC6 on 0.16mm Garbo- line, with a spread bulk of 11 stotz ,0.12mm bottom to an 18 Colmic 501 hook For 16.5M with white Hydro.
2. 0.2g Garbolino DC6 on 0.16mm Garbo- line, spread bulk of no.11’s 0.14mm bottom to a 16 Colmic 501 hook Fished at 16.5M with Grey Hydro
3. 0.4grm Garbolino DS6 on 0.14mm Garbo- line, spread no 11’s 0.10mm bottom to an 20 Gamakatsu pellet hook Fished at 11M with blue hydro
4. 4x12 Preston silver dura float 0.16mm Garbo line 0.14mm bottom to a 16 Colmic 501 hook fished in the margins with Grey Hydro
At the start I fed the 11M line with a ball of dampened micros, Then went straight across with corn on the hook and a sprinkling of micros in the pot each cast. In every match I’ve fished at withrington I have normally got a couple of early mug fish from across, but I had nothing for an hour, and after trying the 11M line with 4mm expander and red maggot for skimmers I finally had a bite in the margins over the maggots I had fed but it was only a 4oz Perch!! Nothing I could do could get me a bite, but from two pegs to my right all I could see was elastic being stretched and carp netted!
John Moody on my right had one bite on his skimmer rig at 11m which turned out to be a 9lb carp! And still the wind blew and the rain rained!! And without a brolly, tha, if I had put it up, would have probably finally come down on the isle of Wight! I really was not enjoying myself.
With an hour to go I finally had a carp on Maggot on the 0.12mm rig across then had another, then got broken, when the elastic bottomed out 2 pegs away! I still thought I could get another, which would see me get above johns 9lb carp on the next peg. With 10mins to go and after another biteless session down the margins I shipped over and had a bite within 30 seconds, but just as I was shipping back My 13M section came off and was towed off towards the far side with me just holding the 14.5 and 16M section and just not knowing whether to laugh or cry?
With permission of the guys to my right I pursued my pole 3 pegs to my right into E section and finally got hold of it by lying on the grass and stretching out for it. The trouble was it was now full of water and it was a struggle to ship it back across the water, finally I got hold of the top set and knowing the carp would not count and I was long but caring I pulled the white hydro from the pull bung and netted a 7lb mirror carp with Barry from Peg E2’s Landing Net only for Dave George ( the league secretary) on the inner snake to say “ you do realise that it wont count” Talk about stating the bleeding obvious!!
With all this fun happening John moody on D6 netted a 2lb carp on the whistle !
The section went: D1 25lb D2 50lb D3 44lb D4 4lb D5 (me) 7lb D6 12lb

I bloody hate Carp and Commercial fisheries!!

Bring on the Final Round at Pewsey
