Yeah, different circuit to me but Paul Glenfied.
I don't remember the ins and outs of his tactics but wasn't he the one that had a terrific spell on the Thames with feeder and bread; if I recall he THE man to beat there; a bit like John Dean on the Trent.

16-1 stan piecha that sounded a good bet, stan fishes with us now after a quiet spell away from team fishing.but has returned and has not lost any of his enthusiasm for winning and still loves his caster fishing the younger ones in the team can only learn from such a good angler

Joff, I was probably one of the 120 on that Burton Joyce match; brilliant matches!
John Dean took float fishing to an unbelievable level on the Trent; he was pure genius.
I spoke to him not too long ago; he had been down to Burton Joyce and bagged up but he didn't use a keepnet, - he has strong views on that. He said you just need a bit more room than you used to have, the river was thick with fish and anglers just had to sort it out.
He was brilliant on the float; crappity smack knows how much pool money I sent his way!!!

You`re right Bill,
Paul perfected the wag & punch method for when the Thames was cold and clear along with the bread feeder as well. He is a thinking angler and not only a one venue angler (I seem to remember that he framed or won on various venues on our travels, Medway, Nene, Cam and Yare). The only thing he`s struggled with is the transition to carp match fishing, but he`s biggest failing is getting a round in!

Yeah, top days those Trent matches.
Contrary to what a lot think it was basically all roach and you had to sort out the better ones; you really had to turn up on chance to get a peg for the following week!
There was the occasional 20-30 lb in the latter days but in the main the earlier Saturday matches tended to be won with a 'double' of some sorts with 8-9 lb generally framing. It may not sound good by todays weights but the last few in the match (almost 100th) would weigh in around the 5 lb mark.
It was the back up weight that made these matches so good; it was all roach, dace and gudgeon then.
Happy days
I once remember turning up for a Saturday match, setting up and got the shivers because I had left my casters on top of the fridge at home! There was a Goole angler next to me, I think his name was Roy Duckett from memory, he shared his bait with me, casters and hemp and wouldn't dream of taking a penny off me. Would that happen today?
If I remember right that was one of the few matches on BJ I framed in but I did win a few sections and that was a real honour in itself.
More happy days
I met some fantastic characters there too; they were equal to the fishing, top drawer.

Paul is still a top river angler, won the Thames champs recently, fishes the Evesham festival and i see him at Barston too. Did a couple of nice features with him on the Thames 2 years ago. Does some great voice-overs too but you're better off asking him about that...

Here's an easy one for you.
What former England International virtually aways fished, and probably still does, in trainers as opposed to wellies/boots/waders.
Dodge can't answer this; he'll knowe straight away!
