Match 11 - Big Col crushes the Cashmores Crew
Match 11 - Big Col crushes the Cashmores Crew
Well little was known about this venue - Heronbrooke The Wergs Wton - other than reports that it contained tench, bream, some 20lb plus beastie carp, skimmers and a ‘recent’ input of some stocky carp knocking around the lb mark.
I arrived relatively early to be greeted by the ‘gaffer’ of the pool, KOD and Perchpoacher, who’d come along to sample the wrath of the fabled , already pegging out.
Pegs 1 – 10 were to be on the northern bank, with pegs 5 (the point) and 10 the flyers on that side of the pool.11 to 25 ran on the southern side, with bush pegs reported to contain those beasts.
A turn out of 17 Cashmore’s members were supplemented by 6 visitors. With just myself and KOD left to to draw, peg 8 (permanent 27) stuck to my sweaty palm. KOD drew last, leaving ‘flyer’ peg 10 in the bag.
Peg 8 was on the shallows……….depths of 3 ft I was told.
With the second longest walk, I was a tad lathered to get the peg. What was worse there was visible signs of fish……….those unmistakably dark shapes, plus copious amounts of fizzing but they were in pegs 9 & 10 to my left
A call to one of the Chockie Munsters mates at BAC earlier in the week had confirmed my worst fears. It was pellet, pellet and a bit more pellet with corn back up. Anybody who knows me knows that despite my best efforts, I just cant catch on matches on the pellet. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but just cant hook a duck on them.
With this in mind, as well as catering for the pellet, a total of 7 pole rigs were set up to cover a variety of eventualities and get out of jail tactics on the deepest part of the peg that was just over 2 foot deep..
The off. Some of Simps’ pellets plus a few grains of corn were potted on the long pole line and in the margins to left and right.
Zorro, opposite, must have also had some cock on info, because before I’d finished potting the initial feed he was playing a stockie took on the feeder.
Not having the confidence to try a pellet first look in, a piece of corn was slipped on to gauge reaction. The float danced, dipped and sailed under, but all my attempts to connect failed…………what’s going on? Well I knew really................
Picked up rig 2 and impaled a mag. Shipped out and the float sails away. Lift………….and a 1.5 oz skimmer is on the way to the net. Drynet off, I can relax now.
On the far bank hidden by shrubs in almost in the corner, Big Col was having his lacky pulled from the off as he decimated the rest of the field.
Yep - Big Col is hiding in that corner somewhere
Ian too from favoured peg 5 was also having occasional tussles with better stamp fish.
Ian on the point
Well I can’t report a lot more as I continued to pick off a shoal of bottle tops over the 5 hours which were interspersed by the interruptions of 5 stockies around the pound mark which led a bit a merry dance on light lacky.
Periodical looks on either margin failed to produce owt.
Time for the whistle and scales

Finally hope the visitors enjoyed it and that the wrath of the wont put them off joining us on another grueller in the future

That will be me then
Really struggled from the off, in fact it was nearly three hours before i had a bite, couple of small perch and small a roach, then it died again picked up couple small skimmers on feeder before J Davies(guest) lost one of the beasties under the tree in the side on corn
So not to be out done went down the side only to find them tight to the tree ::)
well i actually hooked four beasties only to have four rigs smashed and me 20 elastic broke
That will teach me to leave me heavy carp rod and bread at home
Match 11 - Big Col crushes the Cashmores Crew
Twenty elastic smashed

Hi Corcatchacold :-[
Sorry mate but I aint quite confident doing 'all' you told me yet.
I did feed some of the stuff and have certainly noticed the diff it made on both this match and the last match at Curborough.
Just need to practice a bit with it - its a confidence thing with me - same as a few years back I couldnt catch owt on corn and had no confidence in that either. Just aint got the time at the mo to get out and have a practice with it
But I know that if I start getting a few tugs on the method/bait I'm sure I'll start flying with it

T.K,
you can relax now old son... yoda's back...
been busy and as you know i only get to use the internet at set times.
shame about not using the "KNOWLEDGE" but you have a few mathes left to prove the stuff works.
as for woodcote, i have fished it a couple of times but not since earlier this year.. infact aint done much at all since earlier in the year...
when i did fish it i had a couple of good bites but somone was messing about with the site on the day so i called it quits and packed up early. if only i had known then what i know now though eh???
but it should go well the weekend, especially if it stays a little cooler...
wish i could come see you this weekend on the banks mate but as you know that aint gonna happen for a while.. in the meantime i should warn you one of your guests is trying to tap me up for tips on the place....
dont wannna cause an argument between you guys!
anyway.. one of these days i wll be able to come give you a lesson.
tight lines brother!!!
