Grueller Match 16 - The Final Battle 7 / 3 /15

The improving weather and recent good catches at the Calf Heath Marina venue meant this was a well supported Grueller , the final match of this elite series .

Fifteen anglers met for the draw and had a good chance to see the angling potential as someone was already sacking up on what would be Yamo's peg – Big Col gently asked the angler to move on as the venue had been booked for our contest . A vote for a 5 hour match was well supported .

A new Cashmores member , Steve , was welcomed into the Grueller fold .

Recent visits meant the marina mouth area were the most saught after pegs and " drawbag " Big Col pulled out peg 9 ( a hot favourite )

The starting call saw all anglers start to fish and early indications were that this would not be a " bag up " event , the bread punch appeared to be very slow to work and the regular barge traffic meant that carefully fed pegs were having to be refed to try to keep the bites coming .

My own peg did not yield very much until I decided to fish a worm tail at 11 metres to a parked boat and half way through the match a nice skimbo was nestling in my keepnet – now where were his mates ? I managed to land 1 more and lose 2 further skimmers just before the weigh in and those lost fish proved costly in the end .

Over on my right both Big Col and Yamo were making most of their " hot pegs " but still had to work hard for their bites as boat traffic in the marina mouth had a disturbing effect on the fishy appetites .

The weather was kind to us apart from when the breeze decided to change direction several times.

The results of the match were as follows :
Peg 1 Phil B 1-1-2
Peg 2 Mr V 4-2-0 2nd in match
Peg 3 Blues 1-0-3
Peg 4 Mark 1-3-5
Peg 5 Tricast DNW – spent second half of match wandering about asking people if they knew the Bradford score
Peg 6 Little Col 2-2-2 section winner
Peg 7 Steve 3-11-8 3rd in match
Peg 8 Denis 1-12-9
Peg 9 Big Col 6-3-0 Winner
Peg 10 Yamo 3-7-0 section winner
Peg 11 Trevor 3-0-0 - oh but for those 2 lost skimmers !
Peg 12 Buzza DNW lost several decent fish and had a bit of a nightmare
Peg 13 Obi 0-12-0
Peg 14 KOD 1-12-0
Peg 15 Josh 0-9-12

Well done to Big Col on another well deserved win and to all anglers for taking part in a good clean match with not too much swearing .

Grueller Series Analysis ( subject to final audit )
Using the match reports from the site ( cannot see Grueller 1 ? Did we start at 2 ? ) then my team of tip top statisticians have analysed the results and applied the approach of 3 points for a win , 2 for 2nd and 1 point for third

In reverse order the Grueller series 2014/15 winners were :
3rd place with 1 win , 2 x 2nd places and 3 x 3rd places ( 10 points ) is TRI CAST
2nd Place with 3 wins , 3 x 2nd places and 1 x 3rd place ( 16 points ) is Mr V .
1st place with 5 wins , 2 x 2nd places and 2 x 3rd places ( 21 points ) is BIG COL .

Well Done to all anglers who have taken part and a great Big Thanks again to Big Col on not only organising the series , putting us on some new venues , finding us some fish to catch and also going and winning the Grueller series .

If big Cols comment was correct, can I urge due diligence on your assertion that you have found Damiens big brother before inflicting the chopping scissors upon him/it

Perhaps that is the secret of his past angling successes.
He has his lob(s) circumcised.
I understand the charge for this procedure is £1.00 per lob plus tips

Following on to the speculation with regard to KOd's bait, and being aware of his current sojourn in the Austrailan sub continent. Perhaps we should closely examine his bait pots.
He may have smuggled back a large quantity of Witchetty grubs for bait.
These wrigglers measure some 4.7 inches, and would add to any catch weight.
We should be able to recognise them. Most will be larger than his usual catch. He may well be eating the evidence to cover up any jiggery pokery.
