I don't know about you but I've really missed it this year i decided to totally leave commercial matches alone . Instead Ive been trying to get to terms with them and few of my mates have come along no pressure just a pint after . pleasure fishing is different but we tried to make as fair as we could yet still end pegs dominated. when ever I've fished a match on a commercial the journey home has been all about if's why's and ZZzzz's . i feel i've learn't so much even basic feeding or even no feeding the difference the wind makes . all said and done i take my hat off to the likes of Steve Ringer Rob wootton and many more of the top commercials . You can not just turn up and expect to win it's all about how much time you have . whether its me but the anglers within the tackle trade seem to have more time then most . Still at least this year i've not gone any grayer or smashed any kit up or come out with the old saying "thats me done with commercials never again . I couldn't fish Ivans match at the glebe this year one i will always go to but i have to admit i didn't miss the crunching carp the foul hookers or the 12 tins of corn .
No I'm a River and canal man love both venues plus silverfish commercials and having a break has given me time to shelved all my workshop out this year spent time with the family and a few social dinner times in the pub watched some football good old Leicester city blue army . now i'm ready for the off and what a season i have in front of me 50 to 70 peg matches on natural venues every week . stick float ,waggler , bolo ,pole and feeder doesn't get better than that . I've put together a winter league Team for this year we should be called all our yesterdays some really good and experienced river anglers . just hope we can cope with the walks to the pegs without a heart attack. The Trent, Soar little welland and the Glen what great natural venues to fish plus a host of canals to choose from . as you can tell i simply can't wait ive been ticking the days off . what are you planning this season :thumsup :thumsup

Canals and Rivers for me til next 14th March Joffie :D.

Member of Ferrybridge AC at Burton who run a match most weeks on their cracking stretch of the Trent. Brilliant set of lads, with good banter.

Member of Coors, so plenty of water and matches to go at with them too.

Now my health is back to "normal" I will try and get on a few more opens this year, as I love the atmosphere at the draw, and the stories that you hear at the pay outs afterwards. I am on the reserve list for the first Trent Masters at Burton, so fingers crossed, Tony might be adding a few more pegs. :thumsup :thumsup

20 days and counting....bring it on :joy :joy :joy :joy :joy

Ey up Joff, have you booked on Muckno this Sept?? That will be my first proper go as I don't bother through summer. Looking at changing my floats for muckno as wasn't bang happy with mine last year. Whats your thoughts float wise, was maybe looking at series 18 for a bit of wind and was after a slim float for calm day!! :thumsup

Hi Fin yes funny enough Tony Keeling has just booked the ferry so yes i should be there . 10th of September to the 20th can't wait really up for fishing at the minute . perhaps its because i've had a few weeks off  just need my drawing arm to function so i can have a real go this year . I hear there is a massive interest in the september festival so get it booked up kiddo pretty sure we are in the same digs .
Floats series 18 are the floats i used and to be fair we had some great weather last year so i didn't really change only in size .the fish didn't seem hook shy so delicate floats i didn't both with . Had some great fish on the waggler something i'd like to try more if it goes down the skimmer lines . if its roach that 8 to 10 m should be spot on ..
Andy yes the river looks really nice plenty of fish starting to top around dusk  :thumsup

I'm just starting to gee myself up for the opening ... Didn't bother with any canal matches n the close season this year .... Generally weather has been too windy or chilly to make me regret that!

I've been lucky enough to get 7 of 11 riverfest qualifiers, so starting out on that on the Calder on opening Saturday, followed by Tony's open on the Trent at Burton on the Sunday.
Following week I'm on the warks Avon at barford on the Saturday. Also booked in for the 3 day festival there in early July.

plenty of variety and hopefully lots of bites!

Might start preparing a few rigs next week. I've managed to get on 3 riverfest Qualifiers and really looking forward to the one on the Nene. Its a nice river and I think there could be some good weights, it's just not fished like it used to be.Then there's a few matches on the Soar with a decent bunch of lads.Though I've got to go a couple of carp puddles in between for Angling trust Final, hope it's on a natural venue next year!!

Have been getting the rigs ready for the SBonnington . So excited what might happen , will the skimmers flood the length , have the chublettes grown and remained there ? Perch choppy and the hemp roach i am sure are there but will short whips play a part in the proceedings and if there is a run off on the river then the feeder fishing will see the bream feed. The Tench , The large Perch and Tench plus the odd 5lb Eel can also provide the sport that effectively gives a section or individual prize.
Bring it on !
