On the pairs front it was always going to be wide open and that's what makes this league so good it just takes a couple of good results to put you back in the race Nick moss and Barry jones did just that scoring just 10points on a rock hard canal to put themselves right back in contention for a top three finish although its one of the tightest leagues so far to date
2nd place was tied between Aaron wells and John shellard Leicster SENSAS and Andy Beasley and Tony barker Shakespeare on 16points
4th place again was a tie between Dave pitch and Sid baldock Phil watts and tony welsh on 17 points
6th place BOb greenbury and Derek Jackson now on 19points

The overall league to date with one round to go on march the 3rd
1st Andy Beasley and Tony barker Shakespeare 42 points
2nd Dave petch and Sid baldock 53 points
3rd Darren bickerton and Steve woolhard on 57points
4th Nick moss and Barry jones 66points
5th brad titmas and Steve hemmingrey 67points
6th Aaron wells and John shellard 75points

Joff, do you think the canal has had too much pressure over the last five years?

I've seen it happen to a few venues.

It hardly gets pressured at all Leigh, it only gets proper matched for 3 months of the year and that is at the worst time of the year. The canal has changed though mate, but I don't think it’s down to pressure from anglers. The canal has changed over the last 5 years but I think this is more down to adverse conditions, over the last month we have seen -10 degree drop in temperatures and then +12 degrees a day later and we all know how much rain we have had and the canal hasn't been its natural colour in weeks, as soon as it gets to its normal colour we have a load of rain and its back to tea colour again! lee like gaz said our canal is fed off the river plus the stamp of fish your fishing for are quite a bit bigger than most canals .its normally a clear canal because of the depth which makes it a winter canal but over the last two seasons its just been coloured most of the time
you only have to look at the erewash which is another clear canal to see its the weather that's stopping it fishing to its potential
if anything it will make the semi final wide open

A lot more fish to be caught on the fens Pete, an odd poor day but generally a good day's fishing. Loads of roach !!!!!!!!!!!! They have also fed well in these last few weeks.
It's a shame the loughborough has gone down hill but the writings been on the wall for a while regarding winter matches. I just hope the venue improves on the day of the semi but cannot see it happening.
Don't get Me wrong I do feel sorry for Joff and all the lads who like to fish it and go on the matches but it cannot be nice or enjoyable to struggle so much with low weights. Still each to their own.

Well that was the worst match I've seen on the canal for a long time! :'( Does anyone else think its to do with that marina opening up at pillings? Or have the bigger roach just died? Apparently they only live around 5-7 years anyway? There seems to be a greater presence of smaller roach in the canal these days whereas 3-4 years ago you wouldn't see one smaller than 2oz! I can only think the cycle has started over again because other roach dominated venues around the country such as the stainy, town welland are all still fishing well under the same conditions, ok so they maybe different in depth, width etc but the fishing on the Loughborough on its day can be just as good. This simply isn't the case anymore and there must be a reason why.... I just hope I'm wrong Image

Choppy it's not just the canal mate you only have to take a look at the river soar we would all run to Sutton with couple of foot on and coloured and could catch skimmer and bream off most pegs ! Now it's the kiss of death I personally think it the chemicals they use to breakdown the sewage it might not harm fish but it puts them off Image
