John it is and I believe he now lives in Cornwall and along with Andy partridge and co does alot of the circuit there.
J.W. was always an interesting bloke, good angler and good laugh.
I also used to be in the same team with his brother..Richard
An ex Isfield angler who was totally different character.

Anyone ..???? remember the Isfield team from deepest Sussex.?

Richard Waples, didn't he have blonde hair?
Isfield, was that glen Fleet's mob. Didn't he work at a print company near or in Westerham.

I use to go down that neck of the wood odd times and fished the Rother; they did a two-day event at one time sponsored by the Daily Star.

Glen was a real top angler on the Rother, - roach to waggler if I remember right or am I getting muxed ip again!!!!! Image

Not so sure abouit the blonde hair with Richard.
Yes Glen Fleets mob with Bob Sutherland,Mick Wickham,Percy Walter,Glen etc..will name them all soon.
As you say he did work for a printer in Westerham,I shall try to track him down and return info.
As for the Rother two dayers..they were brilliant as organised by David Bird.
I did the lot in all the different forms of sponsorship
Ladies days, win a car big presentation after, all great,
David B. let us stay at his place in North Salts,Rye and we went down Friday night to make the most of a great event.
Remember when the Trenmen came down and nicked all our dosh.?

Ah, I'm glad me marbles aren't completely square now!
I think when we used to come down it was before Daiwa Trentmen days, in fact it may have been before David Bird ran them.
Carbon poles were spon new then and I
had just bought a Maver Litium, I remember Bob Nudd giving it a good going over down there as he hadn't seen one before!

Printing was my original trade; I part owned a company called Stafford Uniprint which meant little time for fishing as this was built up. Eventually sold it as computers came more into the picture. We sponsored some teams in AT Winter Leagues although I very rarely fished for them due to work. They were a young side and often gave Tri-Cast Highfield a good run for their dosh!!!

I remember weighing in about 5 lb of bits and bobs on the Rother (New Bridge? not sure) only to be beaten by the guy next door with one crappity smack great big mullet :'( :'( I had never seen one before and thought it was a chub Image

Happy days, used to stay at Westerham for the two days, sometimes a week and enjoyed pleasure fishing the Military Canal.

We used to get lots funny sea fish in the lower Rother when the main Starlock was a bit dodgy but years ago a super new one went in and they shall not pass now.
Great river the Rother, lots to do and plenty water to play with..top 4's.As with the Military and now the Rother any 'end peg' is likely to produce a good result and likely win the match.
I have been lucky on my matches there and drawn more than my fair share of good ones and also messed up the odd one as well.
Military now my favourite venue with squatt fishing in mind.
Never win a match doing this but get good section points and have a great day with bites all through the match..'proper fishing'.!
They were great weekend events there and sadly missseed now as is Mr Bird.

They were superb. I came second to the late Ray Mumford in a two dayer on there. Ray bleaked it both days - and cor, he didn't half tell some porkies about how he caught 'em. I know because I had to bleak it on the second day and had 4 lb odd from a very poor area - could have been more if I hadn't wasted loads of time chasing non existent roach! You had to fish deep for the bleak and use squatts on the hook - Ray told everyone he had 'em off the top on pinkie - even though he included one of those well known surface feeders - a 2 lb tench - as a bonus! ;)
Everyone remembers Trentmen blitzing the Super Four - but I have to tell you, Starlets did it first.
