The 4th Thames festival, sponsored by Drennan International and Dave Harrell angling, was fished by 66 anglers, from all over the country, on the 6th to 8th September on the Thames at Abingdon, Culham and Appleford. The river has been in brilliant form all season and the anglers were not disappointed with bream, roach and bleak dominating and a surprise net of tench on the last day.
Day 1 saw Steve Sanders have top weight with 39lb 1oz of feeder caught bream from Appleford, 2nd was Dave Harrell with 36lb 10oz of feeder caught bream from Abingdon and 3rd Gary Pook with 29lb 8oz of feeder caught bream from Culham.
Day 2 had Simon Willsmore have top weight with 17lb 15oz of roach and bleak on whip and maggot from Appleford. 2nd was Richard Chave with 16lb 4oz of roach and bleak on whip and maggot also at Appleford. 3rdnd was Bradley Gibbons with 15lb of roach and bream on whip and maggot from Abingdon.
Day 3 had the surprise net of the week with John Weedon top weight of 26lb 3oz which was 9 tench on pole and worm from the power station outfall at Appleford. He also lost 3 tench and a double figure tench. 2nd was Steve Sanders with 19lb 1oz of roach on whip and maggot at Culham and 3rd Richard Chave with 18lb 8oz which was 500 plus bleak on whip and maggot from Abingdon.
Overall results based on section points and then weight was very tight with 4 anglers tied on 6 points behind the winners 5 points
1st Bradley Gibbons – Maver – 5 points – 46lb 10. England U23 international Bradley made the most of 2 end peg draws to have 2 section wins and a section 3rd to win the title.
2nd Steve Sanders – Preston Innovations – 6 points – 67lb 15oz. Steve had 2 section wins and a 4th and thanks to his day 1 bream weight secured 2nd place.
3rd Neil Richards – Daiwa Gordon League – 6 points – 51l 11oz. Neil had a section win a 2nd and a 3rd to edge 3rd place by ounces.
4th Richard Chave – Colmic – 6 points – 51lb 4oz. Richard had 1 section win a 2nd and a 3rd and had the biggest number of fish as he had weights of bleak each day.
5th Simon Willsmore – Drennan – 6 points – 38lb 2oz.
