s.v.w.league 2010 RESULT

JUST HOPE EVERYONE WAS HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS after yet again the organiser went through hell because he changed it from the river to the canal because of the extra water Sad Sad Sad. All the match organizers do what they feel best for the people entering the match. You can't help the weather for p...

R Yare - 25/9/10 - It gets better

We got to the Beauchamp Arms just before 8am with low water due at 08.05 but there was an EA flood warning on the river because of the strong Northerly winds and the spring tide. These were similar conditions the 1953 floods when a tidal surge ran up the Broads rivers. The water was as high as it is...

R Yare - 18/9/10

Update - by Sunday the little colour there was Saturday had gone and I was told that there was 3 foot of clarity and it fished really hard. Nick Larkin won the match with over 20lb of roach on the pole but weights were generally well down from Saturdays results. I don't have all the detail but I got...

R Yare - 18/9/10

The colour had dropped out of the river over the last few days and even at high water there was only 2 foot of clarity on my colourometer a few weeks back it was 10inches! Still, with a nice ebb tide all day the prospects were always good for a few roach to show. I managed to draw the upstream end p...

R Yare - 11/9/10

With a big spring tide running in all match and some colour in the water it was the feeder that did the damage last Saturday. The top 6 all came to the feeder and the winner caught quite a few skimmers from penultimate end peg 143. There was 18inches of colour at the start and 13inches by the top of...

R. Yare result 4/9/10 - Fantastidoolic !!

You can get away with 1.5 gramme if you are tucked around a bend and the tide is flowing the right way. The same peg 2 hours later on the other tide may need 5 grammes of flat float! I find that if that isn't enough then you should be on the feeder anyway. Either the straight feeder or the pole feed...

Pray to the East !

How do you think it will fish during the winter Joff? The winter fishing on the rivers round here is very limited. The local river - the Gipping you can forget now, too much abstraction and predation has killed it. 30 years ago it was great fishing with loads of roach around a pound. The Wensum in N...

Glad that you had a good day mate and well done on the result. You actually live nearer than me by the sound of it! The colour in that river is a very strange thing it can come and go overnight almost but the slack tide probably didn't help it much. As I said in my report on Saturday match the Board...

I think that was the second from lowest turnout of the year Joff mate. The well known anglers have been coming for a few years now, but they don't always show when the feeder is doing the business, it is always a great leveller and even I can frame on the feeder given the peg and a bit of luck! A fe...

Of all 50 anglers - everyone weighed in and there were only 2 weights below 10lb - both on the Boards.

What a day on the river it was.  Some of the colour had dropped out but there was a tinge at high water when the match started - 18 inches on the colourometer but it dropped out as the tide ran down. The bream and skimmers are not showing anywhere near what they were but the roach are hitting the pe...

River Yare Result - 21/8/10

There are plans for the 2 day match, day on the Bure and Day 2 on the Yare for next August. There will also be a 2 day festival on the Yare for Keith Ford's (the Yare match organiser) 60th Birthday next year. Not sure of the dates as yet but when I get them I will put them up. The Pontins Festival w...

FRANK BARLOWS MEMORIAL

Nice report Joff, wish I had been there. The tackle was a bit girlie though wasn't it?  "size 18 to .14 mm hook length" on the R. Yare we have been using size 12's to 0.17mmline with 6lb mainline on the feeder.  Only last week did I tune down my tackle a bit to a 14's on 0.15mm line!  I ha...

R. Yare - 28th August

Yes, I did. Fish of all sizes. On Saturday If I have deep enough water close enough in I shall try a 6 metre whip to hand and see if I can't catch on that.
